Tips on choosing a (Sydney) Wedding Photographer
Before you decide on a wedding photographer, you should take into many accounts as to the skill level he or she has and what sort of photos they can produce. The world of photography is vast in regards to types of photography and flavours of photography just as there is an ulimitied number of styles of artistic painting styles and mediums that can be painted.

When choosing a photographer, you should first of all be able to feel comfortable in his or her presence as you will need to be feel comfortable when your photos are being taken. If you don't feel comfortable, this will show through in the photographs from your wedding day. This is not only the case for wedding photography, but for all types of photography including studio and modelling photoshoots.

If you've found a photographer that you feel comfortable with, you should then have a look at his past photoreels of photographs. As mentioned above, there are many types of photography styles, just as a Picasso painting is different from a Ken Done painting. View some photographs closely looking for signs of bad (or great) photography, such as Camera Shake (blurry pictures), lack of colour saturation, digital noise within the photographs, the use of depth of field (or lack of depth of field), if the focus points are on the main subject of the photograph, choice of photography locations and general creativity within the photos themselves.

Why should I use a Professional Wedding Photographer?
One of the biggest mistakes a bride or groom to be is not using a professional photographer, as you cannont "re-do" your wedding day if you don't like the photographs at the end of the wedding day. If one would compare photos of an amature and a professional photographer, the results in the photographs would be obvious. A professional commercial photographer has an eye for photo composition and the ablility to create a feel or mood in the photograph. So when you're looking to decide who should be taking the photos of your wedding day, a relative with a consumer grade DSLR or a professional photographer with the latest professional DSLR camera, most people wouldn't hesitate to spend the extra few dollars on the professioal commercial photographer.

What sort of equipment should a Wedding Photographer be using?
A prefessional wedding photographers should at least a pro-sumer grade camera of a major brand such as Canon, Nikon, Leica and ulimately Hasselblad. Most wedding photographers will use a digital camera purely because a wedding or professional photographer is not limited to a roll of film. However, that is not to say a professional wedding photographer would not bring a film camera or infrared camera. Camera bodies for wedding photography is only half of what is required. The next major piece of photography equipment (and maybe the most important) is the type of camera lenses a wedding photographer uses. A wedding photographers will have a few different lenses to shoot a wedding with, such as a 50mm, 24-70mm or 200mm lens. Each lens produces a different type of photo / picture. A 24mm lens is a wide angle lens and is great to use if you need to capture everyone at the wedding in one photograph, where as a 50mm or a 200mm with a large aperature is perfect for those portrait type photographs with a blurred background making the subject in the photograph more dominant and will draw the viewers eye to the subject.

One thing a bride or a groom should ask thier perspective wedding photographer is if they carry a back up camera. The last thing you want on your wedding day is your wedding photographer banging the side of his/her camera with a confused look on their face wondering why the camera wont work. Professional Sydney wedding photographers ALWAYS carry a backup camera!

Should I use a local Wedding Photographer?
Most Sydney weddings, a bride or groom would hire a local Sydney wedding photographer as this would reduce the cost by not having to pay for the extra services like accommodation and flights to and from the wedding location. Local wedding photographers should be able to handle all the aspects of wedding photography just as much as another photographer.

Sydney being one of Australia's largest cities has many wedding and professional wedding photographers to choose from. Most wedding photographers in Sydney will service all Sydney areas including Sydney's Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Inner West and Western Suburbs of Sydney.
